Beginners LGBTQ+ Backpacking:
Cardigan Mountain State Park

Group size: 4 (min) – 6 (max)**
Registration deadline: September 19
Orientation: September 23 (Time TBD; virtually or in-person, depending on the group)

Start Date: October 4 (7:00 AM from Alewife Station, Cambridge, MA, or 9:00 AM from AMC Cardigan Lodge Parking Lot)
End Date: October 5 (early afternoon at trailhead, or late afternoon at Alewife Station, Arlington)

Cost: $500-$700 sliding scale (Estimated value $800)

Includes: Round trip transportation from Alewife Station in Cambridge, backpacking meals from Farm to Summit, a 1-year subscription to AllTrails+, and all necessary backpacking equipment (backpack, hiking poles, tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, headlamp, mess kit, etc.). You are welcome to bring your own gear to use and supplement what you need.

Doesn’t Include: Hiking shoes, clothing, toiletries, sleeping pillow

Guineafowl Adventure Company is kicking off its collaboration with LGBTQ+Outdoors for a 2-day 1-night beginner backpacking trip in Cardigan Mountain State Park. With our gear, we’ll hike-in just about a mile before you’ll learn to set-up camp at a platform tent site at the base of Mount Cardigan.  We will hike around the area in the evening and the next morning, including the potential to summit Mount Cardigan, before packing our gear to hike-out the following day.

If you’re interested in backpacking but don’t know where to start, this trip is for you. It’s fully supported and insured and led by expert guide Dave Fatula (he/him, Guineafowl), alongside seasoned backpacker Jac Goldstein (she/her, LGBTQ+Outdoors).

We’ll take it slow and take breaks as needed, giving you time to enjoy the surrounding beauty and time to become familiar with your gear. You’ll have fun, learn as you go, and enjoy great company!

Guides, Dave and Jac, will connect with participants before the trip to assess a good fit (comfort for hiking in varied terrain, tolerance for being in the elements with proper gear, and a sense of adventure.)

Group participants will receive a packing list and meet for a pre-trip orientation (virtually or in-person, depending on the group) on Tues Sep 23rd to meet each other, assess gear, and ask any outstanding questions.
